Mah Jongg
Lots of people love Mah Jongg, right? It seems I keep running into more and more of them, anyway. In some circles, PC versions of the game are as popular as traditional time-killers like Solitaire, Free Cell, and Hearts. Me, I've never played the game, so I can't, unfortunately, speak from an area of expertise on the game itself. That's right, a game with which I'm not familiar (there are indeed very few, believe me). But I'm going to hear about that one.
Anyway, a little history: Early versions of the game began to be developed around 800 AD in China. In Mah Jongg, players must collect combinations of tiles, called Chows, Pungs, and Kongs. Mah Jongg is played in hands, with a minimum of four hands making up a round, and four rounds making up a game. Which leads me to my point.
Listener Sylvia from Englishtown, NJ recently emailed this question:
I was told that the game of "Mah Jong" was available to me but am unable to get it into the computer. Can you help?
Well, Sylvia, if the game was supposed to come with your computer, I'd suggest digging through the stack of CD-ROMs that came with it (I've seen this happen before). Once you find it, pop it in and follow the necessary installation instructions.
If that's not the case, and you'd like to add Mah Jongg to your computer system, it's available for download or purchase in plenty of different forms and versions. Here comes the part I'm good at: I, together with InsiderRadio's crack Mah Jongg expert (Andrea Goldberg), have put together a list of Mah Jongg games available for download, for purchase, or for online play.
