On November 14, 1889, reporter Nellie Bly set off on her Trip Around the World in 72 Days. She was attempting to beat the record of the Fictitious Phineas Fogg in Jules Verne's novel "Around the World in 80 Days" Nellie didn't have much time for sightseeing during her journey but we thought it would be interesting to take you to the cities she visited on her record setting journey and show you virtually what we found of interest in each city. And of course, you'll have to send a postcard back home to your family and friends - so we've made that easy for you too.
About Nellie Bly
Hoboken, New Jersey
She was there before the birth of Frank Sinatra in 1915, but he certainly put Hoboken on the map
London, England
Amiens, France Nellie did get to meet Jules Verne and his wife during a brief stop in Amiens, France.
Brindisi, Italy Don't miss these beautiful pictures of Brindisi and the way they are presented.
Port Said, Egypt
Singapore
Hong Kong
San Francisco, California We checked out the sites to see in San Francisco when David went out there in September. Check out these websites we found, including The Exploratorium (our WOW for 9/16/00.
About her return to Hoboken New Jersey, Nellie said, "I took off my cap and wanted to yell with the crowd, not because I had gone around the world in seventy-two days, but because I was home again."*
