Creating Filters To Help Reduce Risk of Virus Infection

Social Engineering is helping virus creators catch you and infect you with viruses. In essence, they create a virus that is spread by disguising itself as a message from a friend and fooling you into opening it, thereby infecting yourself and spreading to your friends and associates. Even very smart people can get caught this way.

One way to dramatically reduce the risk of being fooled is to filter out messages that contain virus files. Most email software packages support filtering and can be set up to delete the files automatically.

Don't be fooled into thinking that your anti-virus software will catch all viruses. It won't. Even if you use an anti-virus software and habitually upgrade the virus definitions, viruses can get through. So you should use a filter anyway - even if you are using an anti-virus software. We have outlined the step-by-step details of creating a filter.
